Bite Analysis

Occlusal Analysis (Bite Analysis)

When there are symptoms consistent with an unstable bite, there is a need to evaluate the occlusion (how the teeth come together) of the patient.

These symptoms could be included either one or more of the followings:

  • Wear on the teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Abfractions and recessions
  • TMJ issues
  • Headache/ neck pain
  • Failing restorations
  • Clenching and Grinding

To put it in simple words, when the teeth are not aligned with the jaw joints (TMJ), there will be damages to the whole masticatory system upon biting. It’s like the wheels of a car not being aligned and causing lots of damage and performance issues.

With Occlusal Analysis (bite analysis) we can find out the issue underlying the problems and try to plan the minimum amount of dentistry required to fix the issues.

The plan for long term bite stability may then include adjusting the bite through reshaping the teeth, called “bite adjustment”, repositioning the teeth through Invisalign, or rebuilding the teeth through restorations.
